Booni--a growing tourists destination in Northern Chitral

Booni--a village situating 75 kilometers to the north of Chitral town is a growing tourist destination with its hospitable and friendly people, cool orchards and fruit-ladden trees of apricot, mulberry, grapes and pear etc. Booni also offers a network of natural trails for the people of every age and interests. The famous free style polo is played twice a week and has already become a fascination for visitors and the general public in the village, who after tiresome works in the field and businesses just go to watch polo, which is c0mplemented by the music of reed instrument and victory dances on the part of the winning polo team and other folkdancers in the village.

Booni has also become a favourite launching and landing space for the paragliders. This sport has great potential in the future, should proper and seroius efforts be undertaken to make it popular at national and international level.

The Kafirs of the Hindu Kush

Kafirs of the Hindu Kush is the famous book by George Robertson written more than one hundred years ago on the Kalash living in Beshgal [Nooristan]. However, the remnant of those Kafirs, the Kalash are still living in the Hindu Kush with a proud display of thier rich and colourful culture, which has been accepted as world's real heritage. But it is really sorrowful to metion that this culture is about to disappear in near future should serious efforts aimed at its protection will not be undertaken. This way the world will be deprived one of the oldest cultural heritage, with Chitral the best and hospitable community and culture which is such a good tourism product.

Paragliding in Chitral
